From January 1, 2024<\/strong> it is mandatory to incorporate remote identification for drones<\/strong> or remote id<\/strong>, also called DRI<\/strong><\/em> (Direct Remote Identification<\/em>), according to the European UAS regulation<\/a>, specifically the EU Delegated Regulation 2019\/945<\/a>, after the end of the famous ‘transitional period’.<\/p>\n\n

The transitional period of the drone regulation<\/strong> is the ‘transit or transition’ period between the new national regulations and the European regulations. Not that the change will be 100%, so in one way or another, we will continue with this mix<\/strong> of the two.<\/p>\n\n

Remote identification for drones or drone’s remote identification system<\/strong>, which is what I will talk about here, will affect us in that it will force us to be identified<\/strong>, in some way, while our drone is flying. <\/p>\n\n

This remote id. is closely related to the drone class marking<\/strong> and this can sometimes induce errors and doubts<\/strong> in some pilots. I will try to make everything clear to you in this article.<\/p>\n\n

What is the Drone’s remote identification system?<\/h2>\n\n

We could say that this<\/strong> Drone’s remote identification system<\/em> (DRI<\/em>) system is like the number plate<\/strong> of our drone, and it is a unique and non-transferable number<\/strong>. It consists of our drone operator registration<\/a> number + 3 security digits<\/strong> (ESPxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx-xxx-xxx).<\/p>\n\n

This number identifies your drone and you as the pilo<\/strong>t when you are performing a flight operation, and depending on which drone you have you can enter it manually<\/strong>, or you will have to attach an external device<\/strong> (DRI).<\/p>\n\n
