Usually the photographers who took them were pilots of aeroplanes and ultralights who, taking advantage of their condition, were able to take never-before-seen snapshots.
Today this privileged range has increased thanks to the advent of drones, although this profession requires both formal training and experience. In the about me section you can see that I have been an AESA certified drone operator since 2020, in addition to other accreditations.
Flying a drone safely
We already know that drones have a flight altitude limitation of approximately 120m or 400 feet, and a few other rules for safe flight.
A drone is nowadays defined by the acronym UAS (Unmanned Aircraft System), which can be translated as “unmanned aircraft“.
Flying a drone is a serious business, and we take it as such. When flying a drone we find occupying part of the airspace and it may be that our flight plan will match that of other aircraft of different weights and sizes, so we always need to ensure that the piloting of a drone takes place under safe conditions and a detailed and careful pre-flight organisation.
It may be that the area where you are requesting to fly is an area with limitations and restrictions on flying due to your location:
- Less than 8kms from an aerodrome or airport (CTR)
- In a protected natural area (ENP)
- In a Restricted Flight Photographic Flights (RVF) area
- Being in a zone already reserved by another pilot through a NOTAM.
In this case, it is necessary to start the procedure to apply for a permit to fly. I will take care of all that. Don’t worry.
