Holy Stone HS440

The no needed licensed drone Holy Stone HS440 is a very interesting drone to get started in the world of drones, whether you are an adult or one of the youngest in the house.

UPDATE: If you are reading this article you are interested in the Holy Stone HS440. As this drone is now obsolete and out of the market, I have updated the links to its new models, the Holy Stone HS360S and the Holy Stone HS900 (slightly more expensive this one), so you can check if you might be interested in them. These new models improve the quality of the old model. Thanks for your understanding.

The Holy Stone HS440 is a drone that you can fly without a licence. Do you know what you need to fly a no needed license drone? Take a look at my article to stay up to date and comply with current regulations.

These types of drones are one of the most popular resources for many people because they are either drones that weigh less than 250 grams, or the drone manufacturer, in its specifications, classifies it as a toy, and therefore can be piloted without the need for a licence. However, a drone operator’s registration is required.

The licence-free Holy Stone HS440 drone stands out as a very competitive option for beginners and drone enthusiasts alike. This drone incorporates advanced features for a drone at this competitive price point, providing a really good user experience.

IMPORTANT: With this drone being less than 250gr, and before the entry of the new Royal Decree UAS you could fly freely in population centers, now the possibilities of flight have changed with the change in the geographical areas of UAS, besides being obliged to notify your flight to the Ministry of Interior with 5 days prior to the operation.

As a drone weighing less than 250 grams, you can use it in urban spaces or environments, crowds of people as long as you do not exceed a height of 20 metres.

Technical characteristics of the Holy Stone HS440

The main problem with drones (and many electronic devices) is battery life, and in the case of drones, the total time they can be sustained in the air.

  • The weight of the Holy Stone HS440 is 166 grams, a very low weight that makes it one of the best drones of 2023 under 250 grams and probably on the list of the best drones of 2024. You will be able to enjoy more time in the air or finish what you need to do with it sooner, thus extending the drone’s lifespan.
  • The Holy Stone HS440 drone’s 1900 mAh battery will allow you to fly for 20 minutes, so with the two batteries that come in the box you will be able to fly for about 40 minutes perfectly.
  • The lens is a 112° wide-angle lens that will give you 1080P HD image quality. With the remote control you can adjust the angle of the camera, which can be tilted up to 90°.
  • Piloting is made really easy by having a button for easy landing and two speeds for flying, as well as a tracking mode to help you plan your route.
  • It incorporates a flight stop button in case of emergency.
  • The WIFI will allow you to zoom your drone to a maximum distance of 100 metres and the image transmission speed will be around 20 fps (frames per second).
  • Thanks to its 6-axis gyroscope, the Holy Stone HS440 drone can fly stably even in adverse, medium flight conditions. Although I always recommend that you plan your flight in advance and fly in favourable flight conditions so as not to endanger anyone or your equipment.

Conclusions of the Holy Stone HS440

This drone is a drone basically made for fun. It can also be a very good option for those people who want to get into the world of drones and want to start accumulating flight hours in order to gain experience before changing level and buy a drone of a higher range such as Mavic Mini 3 PRO.

The photography or video that you are going to get will not allow you to give a professional drone service because the transmission speed is not very fast so the image will not be a static image, that is the only limitation I find this drone, which for its price and performance I would give it a note a 9.

Drones like the aforementioned Mini 3 PRO, DJI AIR 3 or MAVIC 3 are a different story and will give you a different kind of performance.

Remember that if you want to take a class jump into the ‘open’ drone category to fly a drone over 250 grams you will need to undertake drone training and at least obtain the most basic drone license.
